Discovering QiGong...
Earlier this year I started to show an interest in QiGong. For me it came a few ways!!
I kept getting signs!!
The 1st one came when I watched a video on YouTube about how QiGong helps you increase your connection with your Spirit or Spiritual Growth!! As we all know, during this life time, Spiritual Growth is something that doesn't stop. So, I'm always open to learning more!
I found a video on YouTube and gave it a try. I liked it, but didn't get too into it at the time.
The 2nd sign came to me when I signed up for a Webinar. It was talking about ways to heal yourself... it was more of a refresher for me... but then there it was again!!! QiGong!! Being a great way to heal yourself!!
Ok.. ok... I get it!!
The nudges where there again, time to really look into this more!
So... back to YouTube I went, found some online instruction to learn more moves and see what it was all about. From there, I did research online and bought a few books too!
I started to incorporate QiGong in with my daily Yoga & Meditation practice.
I fell in love with this new holistic healing modality!!
From there, it was ON!!!
I found an instructor Michael Bijker who is a QiGong teacher from Portugal. He runs LAP
(Life Awareness Project) where he teachers others how to do Yoga, QiGong, Pranayama, and Meditation.
I took his courses and became inspired to teach others this amazing way to heal their mind, body, and spirit!!
I finished my course in June 2020
and now I'm ready to share it with the world!!
Why I like QiGong....
I have been doing daily Yoga for years now. I enjoy it a lot!! People who know me personally often say, "So.. When are you going to become a Yoga Instructor?" The thing was, I didn't feel that me teaching Yoga was my calling. At least not right now. I never say never, I say.. not right now.
When I started to do daily QiGong, I started to see how this could benefit so so many people. QiGong is great for ALL ages.
Whereas with Yoga, I feel it is something not all ages can necessarily do! It can tend to be moves that can be tricky, and you hold them for a long while.
QiGong is different!!
The movements are very flowing, graceful and relaxing. As you get used to your flow, you start to feel almost like your dancing. The movement are easy and adaptable for ALL.!!
As you might have heard, it's my passion to reach out and assist as many people as I can live a happier, healthier, holistic lifestyle.... and this is another layer where I can do just that!
I'm very excited and see so much possibility with QiGong being able to offer it to all ages, and all abilites.
What Does QiGong Mean?
Let's break it down...
Qi = Energy or Life Force Energy
Gong=Work or Method
Together Qi+Gong= The ability to work with and move your life force energy.
You see, we were all born with Qi. We inherited a small amount of Qi from our parents. This Qi was to help us grow. So, that Qi went to work and allowed us to grow into toddlers, teens, and adults.
Here's the trick...as we age that Qi or Life Force Energy starts to deplete. It's all dependent on how we treat ourselves.
Ways that we deplete our Qi is by:
Not Moving (Exercise)
Not Eating the Right Foods
Stress/Anxiety
Overthinking
Physical Pain (mentally & physically)
Irregular Lifestyle
Negative Thinking
Now I'm sure, we have all been in a place in life at one time or another where this was true for us and without us realizing it.... started to deplete our QI! The good thing is, recognize it! Once we do that, we can make changes in our life for the better!
So if you have done any of the above, no worries!! There is a way to increase your Qi (energy) and it's by doing QiGong!
Everything we do in life involves energy! Without energy, there would be no life!
When Qi is balanced You will Feel:
Healthy Mentally
Healthy Physically
Good Spiritual Connection
A Lot of Energy
Balanced
Less Sickness
Productive
Joyful
How is it pronounced?
QiGong = (Chee) (Guhng)
Other Names QiGong goes by:
Chi Kung
Chan Chuang
Yì Jīn Jīng
Yan Xin
Wu Qin Xi
Where Does This Practice Come From?
This is an ancient Chinese Practice. It's actually a branch of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).
In TCM the healing modalities are: Acupuncture , Herbology and QiGong.
The use of QiGong to improve and maintain health was 1st mentioned in "The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine" that as written in 200 BC.
QiGong is a traditional energy exercise practiced for many centuries by the Chinese for health, healing, recovery from injury, and disease prevention.
QiGong is closely related to Tai Chi. The difference is that QiGong is the beginner version (less intense) of Tai Chi. So, once you master QiGong, moving on to Tai Chi will be that much easier... if you choose to do so.
What is Qi?
Also known as Prana or Life Force Energy, or straight up... just Energy.
Qi is not something you see, but feel! Qi involves both the the mind & body.
Sometimes when doing QiGong you might feel sensations such as... tingling, heat, a force of air, strength, or a sudden urge of energy. It's pretty normal when doing QiGong that your hands will become warm. If you are familiar with Reiki... you know exactly what that is. The Life Force Energy circulating!
Where your awareness goes, Qi flows!! With no blockages your Qi can flow freely!
Qi is the energy within our system. This Qi (energy) travels through your body through a vast connection of meridians.
Meridians -Traditional Chinese Medicine
These Meridians is what carries the energy though and moves it within our body!
As you can see in the picture above.
Yin
There is a Yin side (Left Side) which is considered the feminine side.
Yin energy is:
Solid
Heavy
Calming
Cooler
Yang
On the opposite is the Yang side (Right Side) which is considered the masculine side.
Yang Energy is:
Empty
Light
Activating
Warmer
Where is the Qi Stored?
With all this Qi circulating in our meridian system, it needs somewhere to go!
Introducing... your Dan Tien's!
Dan Tien is known by a few different names....
Dan Tian
Tan Tien
It translates into a few things...
"Elixir Field"
"Sea of Qi"
"Energy Center"
Main Dan Tien Energy Points
We have 3 Dan Tien's within our system. It reminds me of the Chakra's but well...less as there is only 3.
In QiGong these are the 3 main energy centers.
Xia = Lower Dan Tien (location: Abs/Stomach)
Zhong = Middler Dan Tien (location: Heart)
Shang= Upper Dan Tiens (location: 3rd Eye/Forehead)
All of these nerves and meridians come together in these spaces and that is where our Qi is stored!
Benefits of QiGong:
QiGong combines body movements, muscle relaxation, meditation, and breathing to improve physical, mental, and emotional health. It is meant to promote health, happiness and longevity.
There are many benefits in doing daily QiGong practice. In China, many people who go to TCM doctors will be prescribed QiGong as a way to heal their ailments. In fact, they often prescribe QiGong for their Cancer patients. They have had a great result in them being able to heal themselves naturally!!
